Commemoration of International Holocaust Remembrance Day: Tackling today’s online and AI antisemitism crisis

The Jewish Heritage Centre of Western Canada (JHCWC) and the Canadian Museum for Human Rights is proud to partner on this event marking International Holocaust Remembrance Day and presenting Dr. Andre Oboler, an  expert on online antisemitism and hate.

An explosion of online antisemitism over the past year has significantly contributed to the hostile environment Jewish communities have experienced in Canada and round the world.  This online hate has normalized narratives of antisemitism in society, undermined society’s willingness to respond to the antisemitism, and sought to isolate the Jewish community. Holocaust denial, distortion, inversion, and silencing are a notable component of this antisemitism.

Dr Oboler, will discuss the unique role online antisemitism plays in normalizing anti-Jewish hate in society, both online and offline. He will share examples of AI generated antisemitism and the challenge this poses to the efforts of platforms and communities to counter antisemitism. The audience will be introduced to the new phenomenon of “Racist Anti-Zionism”, and provided an overview of the different dominant manifestations of antisemitism across a range of social media platforms. Dr Oboler will end with a discussion on responses to online antisemitism by a range of stakeholders, including the public, and how you can make a difference.

This program is open to all and there is no charge. Registration required.
